Textiles Recycling Conference 2016

As a reuse and recycling scheme Bag2School is always trying to educate other people in the industry on textile reuse and recycling, especially in working with schools. That is why we are very proud that our very own general manager Ian Woods is also President of the UK Textile Recycling Association. In this occupation he has the opportunity to improve the UK textiles recycling sector from within.

One of the main events on the calendar this year was the Textiles Recycling Conference in London in October. Ian was invited as expert speaker to speak on behalf of the Textiles Recycling Association as well as Bag2School. The conference explored the crucial issues affecting the textiles recycling sector, from local authority campaigns and charity perspectives to broader challenges from regulations to export markets. He was able to shed his light on the current issues in the recycling market and also to hold a session about “Working with Schools to grow Textile Recycling”. This session was co-presented by Talat Afzal, the Recycling and Sustainability Officer for Bury Council in the North West of England. We were so thankful for her efforts this year to encourage schools in the Council area to engage in Bag2School collections and she did a great job explaining her campaign approach.

Below are some pictures of the conference and our “Working with Schools” session. It was a great and inspiring day, hearing from all sides of the industry and catching up with friends and colleagues from around the country!
